Three monitoring levels
SuperView / NetObserve monitors the IT facilities at three levels:
SuperView / NetObserve logs on to the various systems and monitors the systems and the applications running on them just as a human operator would. SuperView / NetObserve periodically executes commands, analyses their results and presents them in a clear overview. The exceeding of set limits is reported automatically, for instance enabling SuperView / NetObserve to monitor the amount of free disk space or the status of a printer queue. If the system allows logging on via a Telnet session, the possibilities are virtually unlimited. Even the use of full screens (forms) is extensively supported. If a problem is detected, SuperView / NetObserve can immediately start an emergency scenario in order to automatically repair the problem.

SuperView / NetObserve follows log files and views each record added to a log file as an incoming message. The system analyses these messages in the same way it handles command results. SuperView / NetObserve allows the most complex or even bizarre patterns to be followed across log files. The co-ordinating function of SuperView / NetObserve enables it to follow various log files of various applications simultaneously.

Most operating systems and application programmes maintain log files, to which important messages are written. Thanks to the continuous following of log files, SuperView / NetObserve can react to these messages correctly and instantly. The system can distinguish relationships, enabling it to e.g. follow transactions of specific persons across a number of log files. Errors are instantly reported and collected into a list.

SuperView / NetObserve is the perfect tool for organisations with a helpdesk. The helpdesk staff have an excellent overview of the situation all the time, which allows them to inform the clients better and faster.

Each computer system has its own command set and log files allowing essential system information to be called up. In order to be able to monitor quickly and effectively, SuperView / NetObserve incorporates a number of predefined critical points. This provides automatic monitoring of important system components. Warning and alarm limits can be set according to your specific wishes and ideas.

Monitoring based on SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) provides the possibility to monitor both network devices and computer systems. SNMP is an industry standard protocol, for which SuperView / NetObserve offers excellent support.

The monitoring of specific SNMP devices can be set and activated immediately thanks to the built-in MIB compiler.

The SuperView / NetMon programme, a component of SuperView / NetObserve, takes care of the monitoring of SNMP devices. SuperView's sophisticated architecture ensures a good overview of the status of the SNMP devices from all locations. Several SuperView / NetMon programmes can be installed at various locations.

SuperView / NetMon
In order to ensure effective use, SuperView / NetMon is able to automatically recognise the SNMP devices. For each device type, a Query Profile has to be created in SuperView / NetMon. The profile stores the conditions that have to be monitored. It is possible to combine these monitored conditions into alarm conditions. If an alarm condition occurs, SuperView / NetMon sends a message to the Server, which will record it and ensure that the right people are notified. Changes to a Query Profile will immediately affect all the devices making use of that profile.

An example. If a leased telephone line breaks down, an ISDN line must take over its function.
If both lines have stopped functioning, an alarm condition is effective, which has to be reported immediately. If the leased line is out of order while the ISDN line is still functioning, the situation is still workable and sending a warning will be sufficient. SuperView / NetObserve provides extensive possibilities to send messages and warnings to the right people.

Excellent overview
The integrated presentation of the three monitoring levels provides an excellent overview of the detected problems, both per location and per system. What is the current status, which problems have been reported, who are working on it and what is the expected repair time: everything can be reviewed quickly and clearly. Thanks to the clear overview of network devices, computer systems and application programmes offered by SuperView / NetObserve, you can manage the IT facilities with more insight and easier access. Trend Analysis
Important information on each monitored component can be shown in the integrated overview of SuperView / NetObserve. An example of this is the Trend Analysis, which provides a graphic representation of the statistics of the monitored conditions.

Flexibility
A powerful script language is the secret of SuperView. It offers the user a large degree of flexibility. The IT staff may add their own experience to SuperView, allowing for even better tailor-made monitoring of the facilities. After following the "SuperView Administration" course your staff can get working with scripts right away.
